Shiny New Books

I was lucky enough to get a bunch of books (and gift certificates for books) for Christmas this year. I thought I'd brag about my haul. :)

Save the Cat!: The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever NeedI've already finished this one (and bought a big cork board!) It was very good and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a book about writing. Yes, it is about screenwriting, but most of it still applies to novel writing. Thanks for suggesting this one Alex!

On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

I'm in the middle of this one and it's great, too. :) Although, you probably already know that because I seem to be the only writer in existence who hasn't already read it! :)

Girl of Nightmares (Anna, #2)

This one is next on my list (I may start reading it before I finish On Writing, and trade off between the two.) I loved Anna Dressed in Blood and had no idea when I was reading it that there was a sequel. When I reached the end and there was wiggle room for another one I immediately got online to check it out!

The Selection (The Selection, #1)
I don't know a lot about this one, other than that it sounds (and looks) great. I've read some good reviews, so I'm looking forward to it.

Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #2)
Loved the first book in this series, too, and I can't wait to start this one and find out what happens next!

The Book ThiefHonestly, I can't believe it's taken me this long to get this one. I feel all behind.

We also got a bunch of new picture books and chapter books (Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems is, of course, awesome) but since those are supposed to be for the kids, not me, I'll leave them off this list.

How about you? Get any fun books for Christmas? What are you looking forward to reading in 2013?

  3. I got "Save the Cat" too! I'm only a couple of chapters into it. Loved "On Writing" but I understand reading several books at once. I do it all the time...I'm too eager to pick just one!

  4. I fell in love with Daughter of Smoke and Bone and devoured it in like two days. So when I recieved Days of Blood and Starlight, I really wanted to try and stretch it out. Didn't make it past two days again! LOL And it was so good it has haunted me ever since. I love Laini Taylor! Can't wait until the next one already.

I'll have to check out the others, especially "Save the Cat".

  5. I always have a smorgasbord of books on my reading table. Save the Cat is one I have going, am almost finished with a Michael Perry book (one of my top-ten favorite authors), just finished Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott and have 5 waiting on the library list and a bunch of writing books downloaded on my Kindle. More words than time to chew on them. How fun you were able to get a few for Christmas! Bliss.

  6. I'm looking forward to reading a whole bunch of books this tear. Including Pride's Pursuit by Cat, the third book in a werewolves series. You had a good haul over the holidays Rachel.

  7. I have the Stephen King one. Haven't started it yet. Then I got the same book from my brother for Christmas. Didn't need two, so now I have a credit to use and Barnes and Noble. :)

I feel pretty sad about not reading the Book Thief yet too. It seems like everyone else has.

  14. I like to whip out On Writing every year or so and give it a reread, as it was the first book I ever read that made me feel like I could do this writing thing. Great book!

  15. Daughter of Smoke and Bone inspired me to write Fraction. LOVE that book.

And I've never read a book on craft...does that make me a horrible person? haha
