Turns out, it's a pretty cool idea.
After doing a few blog hops that require pictures, I've learned how helpful this is! Having this picture of Emma Roberts really helps me picture how Sylvia would say something, what her expression might be, etc.

And I've never seen Emma Roberts in anything. It's not that I can picture how she says stuff. It's just that having this picture gives me a real, three dimensional image to think of.
I don't know. Maybe it sounds weird. What do you think? Do any of you get inspiration from photos of real people?
Hell yes! I always use pictures to help me get in the writing zone. For the YA fiction I'm writing, I made myself a document with pictures of the "cast" so I can look at it when I need to be inspired! :D

Deletei can't even start a story without pictures of my characters. sometimes i'm obsessive about finding them. when i'm stuck, i go into the word file i make for them and just stare. of course, it doesn't hurt that the two men in my novel are nice to look at.

DeleteI usually look for photos to represent my characters. Just so I can describe them easier. I don't just look at celebrities though, I check out the models from the deparment store adds too. I'm not great at description, so it helps me visualize.

DeleteI tend to find pictures of people that look similar to my characters, just because it really does help me with descriptions. I usually print out a load and then put them in my notebook for that project, so that I always have them with me. I also have a tendacy to find images of clothing and other keys items that that character has, just to give me a more rounded view of my characters :)

DeleteYes :) When I started working on a collab, we both sent each other pictures of the characters we were writing for, and now that's all I picture when I write, and it helps me get a grasp on their voice. I don't know why I didn't do that before. :)

DeleteI've had to select actors who look like my characters for interviews before and it was difficult. I've never found anyone who was really close enough.
ReplyDeleteSome are harder than others. I had a really hard time with the male teen from this novel. None of the teens I found looked like real teenage boys.

DeleteI've never wanted to find pictures for a character, but I did for an interview and it was a lot of fun. I like Emma Roberts, she's a good actress. :)

DeleteI like Emma Roberts. She was in the movie called "Aquamarine" that my girls love. She is super cute (and young) in it.
ReplyDeleteOf course I have specifiic images in my head and although it's hard to find actors that come close to matching, it still helps me to have them. I pin up a couple around my work desk, just to keep me inspired. :)
I never saw that movie, but I thought it looked cute. :) I bet my oldest would like that one now.
DeleteNot from photos of real people (but then some aren't humans, so that doesn't help). I do like to make my own images though. Especially helps me recall things if real life forces me to take a break.

I participated in a blog fest once that had us posting pictures of some of our characters from our most recent works. It was actually really fun, more fun than I thought it would be. It really helped me clarify the vision of how I saw my characters. :)

DeleteYes. Usually I don't start thinking that way until I've written several chapters and feel like I know my characters a little better, but I def draw inspiration from real-life images. It works better for some characters than others.

I have never used pictures, but my writing partner does. She's a very visual person. I can see how it helps, though.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea - I've only used pictures once, and it was for a bloghop! But when I'm writing, I sometimes have a very clear picture of someone from real life in my head. Others, I just kind of know what they feel like, if that makes sense.
