This is a wonderful group for writers, and if you aren't familiar with it, I highly recommend you check it out.
So, insecurities. . . There are plenty to choose from. I'm trying to get back into blogging, but not doing so great. I'm on submission for the first time, which is its own big ball of scary.
But right now the thing freaking me out the most is probably time. In that I don't have enough of it. Summer is already one third over and it's been crazy. We're working on our new house and slowly moving in. (Although we hope to fully move in this weekend and then get our old house ready to show.) There have been horse shows and band lessons and sleep overs, and rehearsals for Cinderella. All things cutting into my writing time and leaving me feeling rather unproductive.
So, any tips on keeping your writing time sacred? On not letting the demands of everything else in the world keep you from your keyboard? Thanks. Because I need them right now. :)
(Maybe I'll repeat this in my head a few times a day.) ;-)
I have the same struggle. Trying to balance life and my publishing goals is not at all easy. Congrats on the new house!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great quote! Sometimes life does just take over - I constantly feel like I have no time to complete everything in. But I think it's important to recognise that sometimes it's just not possible to do everything - that way, we won't stress if we don't get to write for a while :). As for writing tips - every once in a while I simply have to force myself NOT to turn the TV on when I get back from work, plug in my headphones and get cracking, before I can freak myself out/talk myself out of it! (I should really be following my advice right now - whoops)
ReplyDeleteI hear you! Around the new baby it's been crazy, but I find if I write first thing in the morning, before the kids and hubby are awake, I actually make progress. Not tonz, but some.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your submission! I hope you get good news soon. And I can relate to both the writing and blogging issues. It can be so hard to keep up.
ReplyDeleteFirst, scratch this weekend off, because you really will be too busy.
ReplyDeleteJust set a time, every day, even if it's only thirty minutes, and make sure the whole family is on board. Tell them it's your sanity time.
Wow, you're busy! Good luck with your submission.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the house. We just bought one too... and then we realized that it needed to be gutted. We were planning to remodel, it's what we do, but we literally stripped everything up to the rafters and down to the slab. So yeah, I haven't really done much writing in the last month (also, publisher hit me with a deadline during this madness, and I'm still not sure how I met it: I suspect I sold my soul somewhere--I signed enough documents!)
ReplyDeleteAs for wanting to get more done for your writing. If you can, fall back to pen and paper, carry around a notebook to all of these practices and rehersals. If you're not the one leading them, you can sneak in some bits and pieces. maybe character sketches, or short stories out of the same world, that sort of thing.
The other thing, is that you can accept that life is crazy and you sometimes have to let the writing sit. It's not the end, but moving into the new house is definitely a priority.
Enjoy all those precious moments with your children. They grow up so fast. Squeeze in writing time when you can. Before you know it they will be off in college and you'll have lots of writing time.
